The Case of the Missing Elvis Impersonator
The following article appeared in the local section of The Charlotte Observer in the summer of 1996. (I don't have the exact date because I cut out the article without writing the date on the clipping. But this was in the paper .... really!)
HICKORY - A man described as an Elvis impersonator was reported missing by his wife. Tony Lee Chester of 1526 20th St. Drive N.E. was last seen riding down the street on a black, girl's bicycle Monday night. He was wearing pants with leg zippers, black steel-toed boots, gold sunglasses and a mood ring, police said.
Chester told his wife, Phyliss, that he was going out to use the telephone. She became concerned upon learning that he didn't take his cigarettes. The police report describes Chester as a heavy smoker with asthma.
He is 23 years old, stands 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds. He has fair skin and black hair.
Man, does this paint a picture, or what? Imagine a smoking and wheezing Elvis impersonator riding down the street on a girl's bicycle. I never did see or hear if Phyliss Chester found her husband. So if you see this guy, please call the Hickory, NC police department.
